valencia ( Spain), 6 mar ( EFE).-the Hospital La Fe of the Spanish city of Valencia (East) has carried out for the first time in Spain intervention in which, at the same time, has practiced a double coronary bypass and repair of injury of carotid artery.
the pioneering intervention has been carried out without extracorporeal circulation and the heart of the patient beating, said hospital Centre in a statement today.
So far, this intervention was carried out in two stages separated by at least a month and, in the interval between operations, the patient was in danger of suffering a heart attack or a thrombosis.
The cardiac surgery and Vascular Interventional Radiology service teams made this double operation in a hybrid operating room of surgery Cardio-Vascular, the only one of these characteristics in Spain.
The intervention was carried out successfully on February 22 in a patient of 71 years, who after being a week entered on floor of hospitalization of the Centre has received medical discharge.
The patient, who was suffering from an advanced arteriosclerosis, presented an injury due to a narrowed carotid artery, so it was placed a stent (similar to a small dock, the expanding it solves the problem).
In addition, it was necessary to practise a double coronary bypass to solve other two injuries in the coronary arteries that were endangering the blood supply of the heart.
The development of two interventions by simultaneously allows to optimize the use of the operating time, since the two types of injury can be resolved in a single speech about 4 hours of duration, instead of two interventions by 4 and 3 hours.
Also avoids that the patient have to be hospitalized for each of the interventions according to the same sources. EFE
