Madrid, February 2012.- the SECPRE convened a special Assembly on Saturday, January 28, to analyse the problems of breast implants PIP with the new data provided by the different national and European agencies.
Therefore the Spanish society of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic (SECPRE) wishes to express public opinion as follows:
– reiterate that day, should emphasize that they there is no new evidence that relate implants breast PIP with the development of a possible cancer or other type of serious pathology. -La SECPRE strongly believes in honesty and professionalism of surgeons and institutions (public and private) that have used them, especially when its use and distribution was approved by responsible official bodies, from which it follows that had passed filters for quality control and security relevant.
-plastic surgeons of the SECPRE are concerned about their patients and feel equally victims, since such implants PIP, supposedly met the standards of safety and legality in force. Therefore, since the SECPRE supports the creation of a platform of affected plastic surgeons, which will serve to articulate the legal measures that they deem appropriate against those responsible for this healthcare fraud. – have knowledge that there is a considerable number of PIP prosthesis implanted by professionals who are not Surgeons of the SECPRE and/or in the context of companies of the sector of cosmetic surgery for his way of working can promote that patients are unaware of their surgeon’s reference. With the aim of helping and caring for those carriers of implants PIP that are neglected, the Spanish society of plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic (SECPRE) is working to provide its network of Surgeons of form individualized to those women who need.
– are the first interested in the safety of our patients, for which we need to have confidence that the obligations set out in the regulation of medical devices, the requirements of certification and specialization of physicians and the requirements of health centres which are performed cosmetic surgery interventions are met. Therefore the SECPRE requests the health authorities, the elaboration and implementation of clear rules governing the practice of plastic surgery and aesthetics in Spain.
