Valencia, February 2012.- in most of the countries in our area is habitual teaching skills of the family medicine (FM) in the University, through development in specific departments of family medicine or related integrating itself with other disciplines. However, this practice has not been extended to our country.

According to Dr. José Luis Llisterri, family doctor at the Centre of health engineer Joaquín Benlloch (Valencia) and candidate for presiding over the Spanish society of physicians in primary care (SEMERGEN), in Spain must aspire to medical students can get to know the MF as an academic discipline, allowing them to ensure their skills to the future, whatever that will become family doctors or not ”. Chairs of family medicine are available at several universities, but most of these are not included in your normal structure, they are sponsored by private entities or scientific societies.

Currently there are 3 chairs SEMERGEN (Alcalá de Henares, Extremadura and Cantabria), but the information available on the activities carried out is minimal, and is also unknown composition of the organs of management, Faculty chairs and its linkage with the University and with SEMERGEN; the annual budget allocated to each one of them is not public ”, as Dr. Llisterri.

Proposals

Faced with this situation, Dr. José Luis Llisterri aims to promote the incorporation of the MF to the University, facilitating the progressive introduction of the MF in the undergraduate and encouraging the accreditation of medical faculty of family.

As concrete measures, among others, are committed to designate a person responsible for University in the National Board (responsible for develop an immediate plan of action in the short term), and to appoint a national coordinator of university/chairs SEMERGEN; In addition, highlights Dr. Llisterri, we will produce a medical family of SEMERGEN teachers register and create working group of professors of University and/or the subject of family medicine of SEMERGEN linked to the Group of guardians of the company ”.

And it is another innovative initiative which aims to put in place the team of Jose Luis Llisterri, as well as making a register of tutors and resident SEMERGEN partners, is the creation of the working groups of tutors and residents (MIR). Will promote the incorporation of the guardians of the specialty to the scientific organization of SEMERGEN and promote the close relationship with the residents ”, said the expert.

The figure of the tutor is the fundamental axis of the specialist training in family medicine; his dedication and training depends, in large part, the acquisition of knowledge, skills and responsibilities required to effectively exercise the specialty and the degree of satisfaction of residents.
