Published the protocols of diagnosis and treatment of the Getafe Hospital stroke

Madrid, 2011-August the service of Neurology of the University Hospital of Getafe has published all the protocols of medical action and nursing for the diagnosis and treatment of strokecombining them in a handy manual of useful professional dealing with these cases. Manual have been developed as Yolanda Aladro and Ana Pinel neurólogas in collaboration with other practitioners and nurses of the service.

Stroke or disease stroke is a disease caused by a circulatory disorder in the brain which alters temporary or definitively its operation. Each year are diagnosed some 120,000 cases of stroke in Spain, a disease with a high rate of mortality and important consequences.

Speed of your diagnosis and the establishment of an appropriate treatment are key to reducing the mortality and morbidity, therefore, is essential to work in a consensus among professionals, according to a series of protocols that help make the differential diagnosis and to advertise the different treatments that can receive the patient, as well as the necessary diagnostic tests and possible complications that may arise in the course of the disease.

The doctors have worked over one year to develop this book “by Neurologists for neurologists,” within the project for the implementation of the stroke unit of the University Hospital of Getafe. In addition, this manual simplifies concepts and allows the work of the specialist to develop more rapidly and effectively as possible according to common criteria.
