Seventeen young people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability departing from Madrid with the mission to reach Santiago de Compostela.

-the pilgrims, aged 16 to 35, tour in 10 days 115 km to Santiago de Compostela with 5 monitors

Madrid, June 2012.- seventeen young people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability in the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid will leave today, June 28 from the headquarters of the Foundation in Madrid with destination Sarria (Lugo)from where they will travel 115 kilometers until you reach Santiago de Compostela.
During the 10 days of travel, the youth walk, backpack shoulder, between 10 and 20 daily kilometers, accompanied by five monitors of the Foundation and with a single car of support for possible contingencies. Barbara Mayher, patron saint of Honor and patron Henry Agudo, will all the way also with the pilgrims in quality of monitors.
The pilgrims have been training in Madrid’s Retiro Park during the last month. Every day, after completion of the stage, the monitors will meet to elect, among 17 participants, two pilgrims the day ”, who delivered the Pilgrim shell ” in recognition of their efforts throughout the day.
Upon arrival at Santiago de Compostela, the group will receive the Compostela and they will visit the Cathedral of Santiago covers. In the evening, held a special dinner with all the family members who will be waiting for them upon arrival in Santiago. The last activity before the return will be the go to the celebration of the mass of the Pilgrim ”.
