Sant Just Desvern (Barcelona), 2013 February.- STADA, leading pharmaceutical company in generics and self-care of health productspresents Dorzolamide/Timolol STADA, a new eye drop that extends its ophthalmological vademecum. It is indicated in the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma, or as glaucoma when a topical beta-blocker monotherapy is not sufficient.

Dorzolamide/timolol combination reduces the elevated intraocular pressure by reducing the secretion of aqueous humor although each of the active ingredients uses a different mechanism. The combined effect of these two drugs produced a further reduction of intraocular pressure in comparison with the Administration separately.

On the one hand, dorzolamide hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II, which in the ciliary processes of the eye decreases aqueous humor secretion. On the other hand, timolol maleate is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking Agent.

Dorzolamide/Timolol STADA is interchangeable with Cosopt ® (Merck Sharp and Dohme of Spain), both drugs belonging to the same homogeneous grouping. Marketed in a presentation, 20 mg/ml + 5 mg/ml in 5-ml bottle, and its price is right the price lower to be able to dispense in the prescription by Principio Activo.
