The words to the media choose to express things influence people’s behavior, sometimes in ways that are clearly harmful. Young people are victims of this negative association use of swearing and obscene language increases the level of aggression of the teenagers.
Sarah Coyne, Brigham Young University (United States), explained that you were known in advance that scenes of violence encourage aggression in adolescents but had not yet investigated the influence that has the improper use of language in his behavior.
Words that assault
To arrive at these conclusions the authors worked with 223 secondary school students. Them were interviewed to find out how much time spent with various types of media and what kind of programming watched, by which he could clarify how exposed were the public swearing. At the same time, Coyne studied how often volunteers used this type of terms and had level of aggression towards other people.
The specialist explained that exposure to the bad words makes boys accept them and use most frequently. The most serious problem begins when young people become accustomed to the use of irreverent or aggressive terms, and this influences the physical and psychological aggressiveness with which relate to others.
Coyne clarified that the effect is “moderate”, but not why it should be left side.
“This research shows that the misuse of the language is not harmless.” Children exposed to the swearing in the media believe that this way of speaking is normal, which decreases barriers that put themselves to its use. And young people who use bad language are more likely to aggress against others. “These findings are very important for parents, teachers and paediatricians”, ran the specialist Brad Bushman.
