MadridMarch of 2013- lack of dexterity in handling of inhalers that is observed in many patients is responsible for a large number of treatment failures.
There are many anecdotal situations that occur, in day to day, with management of inhalers; the patient who uses the covered inhaler, the patient who confuses the dosage of your inhaler, or patient pressing too many doses.
Inhaling smiles. More on inhalers, coordinated by Esperanza Sánchez, the Area of nursing and physiotherapy of SEPAR, it aims to reflect the universal language of smile situations, sometimes anecdotal and real, produced in the working day of a care nurse.
The book, which has counted with the collaboration of Chiesi, reflects clearly the shortcomings on the use of inhalation technique and the level of health education of our patients.
Brings jobs, studies, expertise and information on new advances in devices (e.g. Nexthaler), so that can improve the health education of the patients and the optimal realization of the inhalation technique that as professionals we recognize as the most quick, simple and effective ”says the Coordinator of the book.
The importance of education
Knowledge of prescribers on inhalers and inhalation techniques remains insufficient in Spain. different studies have shown that health care workers should be included in education programs, to improve the technique, help improve compliance and achieve the desirable therapeutic efficacy. Ultimately, the consensus between the patient and the health professional facilitates adherence to treatment.
As it is revealed in the book, the professional must be clearly informed of the advantages and disadvantages of each system. The device must be of use and maintenance simple, resistant and allowing control inhaled doses and the remaining.
In this sense, education is a progressive and continuous process, cannot be overloaded the patient with too much information and the language should be simple and straightforward with clear messages that are repeated constantly.
