Madrid, June 2012.- Hospital ClÃnico San Carlos has completed the reopening of the dialysis unit undergoing a comprehensive reform which has also resulted in enlargement of the Chambers where the treatments are administered to patients with kidney disease that require it. All patients moved to other centres of the community of Madrid for their dialysis treatment and care assistance already being treated again in the clinician.
The new rooms of this unit are clearly distinct and independent. Thus, there is a treble room dedicated to hospitalized patients and another chronic room where migrant patients receive treatment.
With this opening, the service of Nephrology, who directs the doctor Alberto Barrientos, complete the profound transformation that has suffered and that makes it a modern service, which has other special for newly transplanted patients, that incorporate a protective insulation system and a double door with access control as well as single and double roomsin order to protect the patient from possible infections external.
In terms of the areas devoted to hemodialysis, this unit has 6 separate rooms and 21 jobs dialysis. Of these rooms, four of them are aimed at the realization of dialysis to patients who need to be insulated by their characteristics. For chronic patients, i.e. those who require treatment, outpatient, and continued daily or 3 times per week, the technique is performed in the halls of the first floor North, equipped with wide spaces with modern apparatus.

The service of Nephrology ClÃnico San Carlos has an intense activity, performs a year around 12,500 consultations and comprehensive tracking of kidney transplant patients. The reform and expansion of the dialysis unit has been the last phase of the works of phase II of the Master Plan, which has resulted in the reform of the whole area of hospitalization of the North Wing, around 32,000 square metres distributed over 8 floors of hospitalization of patients with a total of 291 rooms conventional double – 160 and 131 individual – as well as 20 beds located in special areas for admission of patients with acute pathologies requiring special monitoring by health professionals. With this reform, conditions of hospitalization for the Center, transforming the former 4 and 6 bedded rooms, in modern and comfortable rooms with air conditioning and built-in bathroom have achieved parity.
