Spain, 2011-September The Hospital Clínico San Carlos Zarco classroom has organized 25 workshops of health promotion and disease prevention for students of primary education, that, high school and vocational training of Madrid educational centres, which are taught throughout the current school year. Also provides workshops for parents, teachers and other professionals of the school community.

With this initiative the classroom Zarco coordinates Nicolás Díaz-Toledo, aims to enhance the important preventive dimension of the hospital, helping students to acquire healthy habits and to provide the knowledge and values necessary to make responsible decisions and to deal assertively with pressures of physical and socio-cultural environments which are exposed.

This first offer of 25 training workshops is aimed at adolescents between 10 and 18 years, although actions aimed at younger students aged between 6 and 10 are also incorporated. It also includes workshops for teachers, parents and students mothers and auxiliary staff of educational establishments. In this way, the entire educational community can participate in the process to achieve a healthy generation in his adulthood.

Content and organization of the workshops

Health professionals of the Clínico San Carlos will be educators on health of these students, by providing them all the knowledge and professionalism of a highly qualified group.

Highlights in this first edition, 2 workshops for parents of students, teachers and ancillary staff of educational institutions to be considered an essential part in the educational process of young people and the subjects chosen were: living with food allergy ” and first aid in schools ”. Sessions include discussion and can be completed with an optional visit to the hospital.

Each session lasts two to three hours and will be taught in classrooms enabled by educational centres that request them. Basic proposal for a workshop may be adapted to the needs and profile of participants. Zarco Social classroom
