Madrid, may 2012.- El Instituto de Salud Carlos III has accredited institutes of health research of Gregorio Marañón and ClÃnico San Carlos. With these two centers are already seven accredited research institutes with which account the Madrid community and are placed to the region at the forefront of research. These centers are located in hospital 12 de Octubre, La Paz, the Princess, the Fundación Jiménez DÃaz and Ramón y Cajal, in addition to the recently accredited two.
The Institute for health research of the hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón has 500 researchers and research focuses on seven areas of research identified by its coherence and scientific soundness, and the social and health significance of their research activity.
Each of these areas of research has a coordinator and grouped together as a whole to 53 research groups aligned around a cooperative scientific project. These areas are: biomedical engineering, neuroscience and mental health, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases and AIDS, pathology of the immune system, translational Oncology, and pathology of large systems and organ transplantation; In addition, there is a specific group of research in nursing.

For its part, the Institute for health research of the University hospital ClÃnico San Carlos has 540 professionals, between researchers and support staff, belonging to the institutions comprising it, and that in the last year more than 300 papers have been published in national and international scientific journals. These professionals work in 61 groups corresponding to the five broad thematic areas which have been designated as priority: Cardiovascular, Oncology, neuroscience, inflammatory, infectious, immune diseases and allergy and other major systems.
There are 17 working groups with a total of 157 professionals researching disorders of personality, Neuropsychiatry and psiconeuroendocrinologÃa, multiple sclerosis, brain mapping, neuromodulation and neurorreparación, animal models for the study of addiction, Neurobiology, neurovascular pathology of hearing in the area of neuroscienceglaucoma and ocular inflammation, NEUROCOMPUTING and neurorobótica.
For its part, in the Cardiovascular area, 75 professionals integrated into 13 working groups are carrying out projects focused especially on valvular pathology and great vessels, structural heart disease, arrhythmias, myocardial and syndromes post-Exchange, prevention cardiovascular regeneration therapy, imaging of coronary diagnosis and Pharmacology techniquesPathophysiology and vascular biology.
5 Research groups composed of 49 professionals working in the fields of Clinical Oncology, molecular biology and pathology of cancer and various signaling mechanisms have been established in oncology.
Another area designated by the Institute as priority is inflammatory, infectious diseases, Inmunitarios disorders and allergy, in which have been established 5 research groups with 90 professionals work in the genetics of autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal, Retroviruses and tropical diseases, hepatitis, infections pathology of sexually transmitted infections and HIV. Also investigated in food allergies and inhalant.
And in the area of other large systems there are 21 groups with a total of 169 professionals investigating in pathologies of the digestive tract, Endocrinology and metabolic diseases (diabetes and obesity), medical physics, biomedical image, medicine, sport, clinical pharmacology, epidemiology and health services, technology and surgical innovation, research in care of the patient, hematology, urology, cinesiterapia, ageing, occupational risk prevention and emergency pathology.
