Community reform unit of marrow transplant of the Princess, which has a percentage of success of the 70%
Fernández-Lasquetty inaugurated last Friday the new unit of transplantation of marrow bone.

Madrid, January 2012.- the Minister of health, Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, inaugurated last Friday the newly reformed bone marrow transplantation unitbelonging to the service of Hematology of the Hospital Universitario of the Princess, which since its establishment in 1982 has done some 1,800 marrow transplants, with a success rate in more than 70% of cases.
In the reform have been invested 350,000 euros and it has allowed to renovate an area of 506 square meters consisting of 6 spacious and luminous single rooms with air filtering to positive pressure, complete isolation and automatic door opening. Walls, covered with a vinyl of antimicrobial medical use, have no sharp angles, so not to settle in them any kind of germ. A bike for the physical recovery of the transplanted patient is available in the lobby of each room.
The unit also has a room especially for family members or companions, so that they can stay comfortably, eat or wash it.
First transplant in 1982
In addition to the marrow transplant unit, the Hematology service has other 14 single rooms, completely renovated, where enter patients for treatment of blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, among others.
The service of Hematology of the Hospital of the Princess, whose head is Dr. Adrián Alegre, is one of the greatest tradition and prestige of Spain. Realizó the first transplant of marrow in 1982. Since then, it carried out 1,800 transplants, and more than half of allogeneic, i.e., donor or compatible family type, and the rest of type anthologist, i.e. of the patient.
Along with the trasplantadora activity and hospitalization for another type of hematological pathology, Hematology service serves annually on an outpatient basis 18,000 patients.

from the educational perspective, the members of the service the classes of Hematology of the Faculty of Medicine of the UAM, and maintain a comprehensive MIR program which have been already formed more than 100 Hematologists.
The research is other strengths, having published numerous articles in national and international journals and currently having more than 50 clinical trials underway studying new drugs for oncohematological diseases.
