Santo Domingo, 19 mar (EFE).-the Government of Dominican Republic launched today an initiative to try to stop the high pregnancy rate among adolescents in the country, a situation that national and international agencies calling in southern Lebanon of worrying.
The National Plan for prevention of pregnancy in adolescence, whose execution is scheduled until 2016, search “reinforce, coordinate and articulate public policies to reverse the worrying statistics thrown last year of pregnancies in adolescents aged 13 to 19, said the Ministry of economy, responsible together with the Ministry of women in the project.
Developed within the framework of the national development strategy, this initiative “is a comprehensive, multisectoral response of social participation, aimed at the reduction of pregnancy in adolescents in the Dominican Republic”, noted the Director of adolescent pregnancy prevention program, Indiana Barinas, in a statement sent by the Ministry of economy.
The Mission of the Plan, he added, is “the creation and strengthening of mechanisms at the national and local levels, including budget allocation and accountability for the implementation of policies to reduce pregnancies among adolescents, guaranteeing equal opportunities and promoting healthy, pleasurable and responsible sexuality”.
In 2011, around 12,000 adolescents aged 13 to 19, received pregnancy care services in the maternity leave our Lady of la Altagracia, Chief among the country.
This represented 31 per cent of the total number of pregnant women handled in the health center, according to figures cited by the portfolio of economy.
Pregnancies in adolescents represent the third cause of death mother in the country, although Barinas assured that they have fallen compared to other years.

The Directorate-General for economic and Social development of the Ministry of economy, warned the economic impact and development of teen pregnancy.

The project agreed to disseminate a series of ills associated with pregnancy in adolescents as, for example, the economic cost of the pregnancy of a minor.
