The Foundation against the pulmonary hypertension celebrates its anniversary with its Honor and numerous medical specialists partners.

Madrid, November of 2011- the Foundation against pulmonary hypertension (FCHP) has held the pasadojueves in the Hotel NH Principe de Vergara in Madrid its second anniversary in a meeting who have flocked to affected by the disease, featured characters from the world of entertainment and medical specialists in cardiology, respiratory and pulmonary hypertension.
The quotation have attended some of the members of Honor of the entity, such as Sofia of Bourbon, the musical group Melocos or Ruben of the network and José ZahÃnos athletes. Other figures have not been able to attend due to different work commitments, but wanted to record its support to the FCHP and the Spanish society for Pneumology and thoracic surgery (Separ), entity that has endorsed the meeting. In this way, a video has been planned with messages mood by VÃctor Valdés, Alberto Contador and Fonsi Nieto athletes, as well as the DJ Juanjo MartÃn.
This meeting has also benefited from the presence of Elena Juarez, general director of care to the patient of Madrid; José Jerónimo Navas, director of the Carlos III Institute of research; José MarÃa Fraile, Mayor of Parla; and Eusebi Chiner, Secretary general of SEPAR, as well as other doctors specializing in cardiology, respiratory and pulmonary hypertension of different autonomous communities.
During the ceremony, outlined the FCHP efforts to raise awareness in society about this disease and improve the quality of life of those affected. In this sense, there have been three research grants promoted by the Foundation in collaboration with various pharmaceutical laboratories, worth a total of 36,000 euros.
In his speech, Henry Carazo, President of the FCHP, wanted to highlight that this has been a very productive year, with significant advances for the Foundation and those affected. Above all, greater knowledge that exists about this disease by society, the medical community and public institutions highlight ”. Also, wanted to highlight the commitment of the members of the entity, which has been defined as a United family struggling with force against a disease that is very hard but that will not be able to defeat us ”. Finally, Carazo has thanked the support of the honorary members, doctors, businesses and institutions that collaborate with the Foundation ”.
For its part, Elena Juárez, José Jerónimo Navas, Dimpna Albert and Miguel Ãngel Gómez Sánchez tried on the developed research about pulmonary hypertension, their possible treatments and the progress achieved, as well as the various strategies that are carried out with rare diseases. Finally, Eusebi Chiner has presented the year Separ 2012 of the minority respiratory diseases include pulmonary hypertension, and has delivered to the foundation of the Separ certificate attesting to the importance that the event is in the field of health and social interest.
This year the FCHP has developed a comprehensive programme of activities in order to understand the disease and raise funds to promote progress in this area. These include research grants that the entity will be launched in collaboration with medical laboratories; meetings with pharmaceuticals such as Lilly, Sandoz-Novartis and Actelion, among others; encounters with medical specialists to project strategies to be followed in the study of the ailment; presence in round tables and specialized symposia, such as the ‘ round table on research ’ CIBERES, and the eighth ‘ International Symposium on stem cell and innovations cardiovascular therapies ’; or the transfer of a property by the City Council of Parla used as residence of affected by pulmonary hypertension.
On the Pulmonary Arterial hypertension
Pulmonary Arterial hypertension is a rare disease without cure of unknown origin in most cases. It has a prevalence of 17 cases per million inhabitants. It is caused by high and continuous pressure of the blood from the pulmonary artery. The pulmonary hypertension may be idiopathic when it arises without a known cause that produces. On the other hand, the pulmonary hypertension can be associated with other diseases such as infections with HIV, connectivopathies, congenital heart diseases, drugs and toxic oil syndrome anorectics or medications to decrease appetite.
The present this disease has no cure and the treatments available are able to alleviate her symptoms and the quality of life to improve. The expectancy of life for those affected was three years after the diagnosis, which occasionally is compounded by an incorrect initial treatment. However, thanks to scientific advances and progressive knowledge of this disease, some patients live with her over 20 years, although the main objective of the scientific community and the own FCHP is finding a definitive cure for this disease.
