Frankfurt (Germany), 14 sep (EFE).-ice in the Arctic has fallen to a minimum historical level, according to measurements of satellites observing the Earth.
The European Space Agency (ESA) today reported that in “the last five years there has been the low ice extent since the beginning of measuring with satellites in the 1970s”.
The satellites that observe the Earth allow to measure the amount of ice in areas inaccessible, such as the Arctic.
This year, the extension of ice in the Arctic is comparable to the minimum of 2007, added ESA.
In this sense, the scientists at the University of Bremen considered that the extension of ice at the beginning of September has fallen below the minimum values registered until now.
The ESA publishes an image of the Arctic Ocean formed by several photographs which the Envisat satellite obtained from 9 to 11 September and that can be seen in blue areas in which the extension of ice exceeds 80% of the surface Navy covered with ice.
