The Hospital IMED Levante launches first video-EEG in the province in its unity of epilepsy.

Benidorm, 2011-December the Hospital IMED Levante has launched its new unit of epilepsy with video-EEG for the epileptic patient monitoring. This unit has been created to provide a personalized response and quality to patients who suffer from epilepsy or suspected of suffering her. For this disease, which affects about 20,000 patients in the province of Alicante, a proper diagnosis is essential to be able to adjust the best possible treatment and to correct erroneous diagnoses.

The hospital has equipped the unit with two rooms dedicated to the study of epileptic patients and they are fully equipped with the latest technology, with a digital recording system consisting of a camera remote control and a system of electrodes of sixty-four channels. The unit also boasts other diagnostic techniques such as high resolution, 3 Teslas resonance and the brain SPECT.

Dr. Alejandro García Escrivá, responsible for the unit, and head of the Neurology Hospital IMED Levante, configured a complete multidisciplinary team to provide an integral service. This team is composed of neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuropsychlogists, radiologists and a monitoring team, which observes the patient 24 hours to act on if necessary.

All this allows in-depth studies through the registration of brain activity and uptake of image, together with other evidence, can help make a better diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

Dr. Alejandro Escrivá also leads the first Forum on epilepsy ” that started its activity in February of this year and is the first of these features Spain. This forum aims to promote continuing education between Alicante neurologist specialising in epilepsy as well as share knowledge, news, experiences and common projects.
