Madrid, September 2011.- El Hospital Universitario Prince of AsturiasAlcala de Henares, has completed the comprehensive reform of its emergency service with the completion of the second phase of works, which will come into operation on 3 October. Works have consisted in comprehensive actions in the areas of Radiology, halls of consultation services orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, urology and General Surgery, psychiatry, as well as areas of boxes for the areas of medical, surgical, observation and outpatient treatmentsthey occupy an area of 2,420 square meters.
This second stage work began in November of last year once concluded the first, which consisted of the construction of the new building, the area of Pediatrics, and the area of adult as well as admission service and access for ambulances.
Care to patients whose clinical situation requires attention in bed is carried out in specific care spaces distributed in 22 beds for medical area, 19 beds to the observation area (4 of them for patients requiring isolation by its Pathology)9 beds in the surgical area and 11 chairs for outpatient treatments.
Boxes are equipped with monitoring of vital signs. In the case of clinical situation more critical patients, this is controlled through a central monitoring, located at the controls of nursing, enabling clinical surveillance in remote.
Greater provision of beds and consultations
The emergency service incorporates for the first time a specific area of beds for the care of the psychiatric pathology. Including this new assistance, boxes of the emergency service of the hospital staffing has become, thanks to comprehensive reform, 45 to 55 boxes, which is an improvement in the comfort of assistance to patients and their families and the daily work of professionals. In addition, the outpatient area has increased in two chairs. The new query area has also improved its Endowment, from 4 to 7 queries for the medical and surgical, specialities in addition to two rooms of priests and a room of gypsum. The diagnostic imaging area has two rooms, x-rays and an ultrasonically.
The comprehensive reform of the emergency service, conducted in two phases, has allowed to increase the area of 2,416 square meters to 4.883. The regional government has allocated around EUR 7 million for this reform, which is part of the reform programme of hospitals has a budget of EUR 200 million.
Intelligent standby system
Patients who enter emergency receive a ticket information and an ID bracelet that functions as a locator, enabling health professionals know the location of the patient at all times. Thanks to a few computer terminals located in waiting rooms, families can learn the patient is in what area of urgency.
The emergency service has a system, pioneer in the network of public hospitals in the community of Madrid, which uses the fingerprint of the professional to access the story medical electronics, clinical reports from automatically being registered.
Integrated two-phase redevelopment
The first phase of the works involved the construction of the new building since November, 2010, the area of Pediatrics (4 boxes of exploration), 12 posts of beds and cots for administration of medication in the form of spray, 1 box of triage and 1 vital box for emergencies and the area of adults (with 2 consultations of triage)(, 7 consultations for patients traveling and 1 vital box for emergencies), as well as the service of admission and access for ambulances with 2.463 square meters.
