The Socialist Party has registered a proposition rather than act in Congress by calling on the Ministry of health, social services and equality that completion of the adequacy of the content of the packaging of medications for the duration of the treatments in clinical practice, a move driven by in August by the previous Executive which would save 700 million euros per year.
So has confirmed it speaking to Europa Press the health spokesman in the Congress and author of this proposal, José MartÃnez Olmos, who held the position of Secretary-General of the Ministry when last August raised this measure through the Royal Decree-Law 9, 2011, from August 19.
Such a rule ordering the Spanish Agency of medicines and products health (AEMPS), under the Ministry, that, within a year, conduct a review of already approved drugs to adapt their packaging to the duration of treatments in the event that these were not suitable.
“On many occasions – recalled MartÃnez Olmos – is not enough with a box to cover treatment, what they end up with many units in the homes of patients”.
In fact, according to data from the collection of drugs SIGRE system, each month are reflected in offices of pharmacy 300 tons of domestic medicines.
MartÃnez Olmos assures that, as are reviewing the packaging and closing the modifications to be done, manufacturers could move to produce these new formats.
In this way, would “improve the quality of care avoiding medication errors and self-medication, which would help to achieve more efficiency and savings in pharmaceutical spending”.
