A project which will give coverage to 25,000

The third scholarship, an amount of € 3.248, has been requested by the Foundation for the promotion and development of Bangassou, and will serve for the construction of a maternity hospital in Niakari (Bangassou, Central African Republic). In this region precarity is the dominant note in the health sector because there are only 4 doctors per 100,000 inhabitants, when the minimum fee established by who is a doctor for every 5,000. There is also a great lack of medicines and facilities, which prevent many surgical interventions. For this reason, says Dr. Miguel Aguirre, President of the Foundation for the promotion and development of Bangassou, from the Foundation want to offer the possibility of having a quality Centre for maternity, so shall be guaranteed the necessary resources for women both during pregnancy to the whole area of Niakari, as in childbirth and after the ”.

In a very disadvantaged neighborhood, where its inhabitants receive no health care, maternity Niakari arises as a plural project that will address all kinds of diseases, as stated by Dr. Aguirre: this Center will give coverage to a population of 25,000 inhabitants, and more than 5,000 mothers, to which will attend during pregnancy and children into adulthood ”.

Niakari women found a serious problem because of the complications that arise during the course of pregnancy and at the time of delivery, giving rise to bleeding internal, causing a high rate of mortality. A proper diagnosis in time, as well as assistance and appropriate means would prevent possible complications and will decrease significantly this situation, because the nearest maternal Bambari, 400 km, and many of the pregnant women have no access to these services for lack of means ”, says Dr. Aguirre.

More frequent in this area diseases are malaria, intestinal parasitic infections, leprosy, and above all the AIDS that onion with the youngest population. It is estimated that about 15% of mothers who attend health centres have HIV. For this reason, the second purpose of the Center is treating HIV-positive mothers and thus to prevent the vertical transmission of AIDS from mother to fetus, which currently occurs in almost half of the children. In addition, after childbirth, may treat seropositivity and all pediatric diseases. Thus it would solve two problems because that would be an early diagnosis of the disease and in case of detected infection deploy appropriate treatment, encouraging the fight against AIDS for several years being done in the area.
