The Spanish society of Rheumatology and Lilly convened the 6th Prize Osteoporosis.

Madrid, February 2012.- the society Spanish of Rheumatology (be) and Lilly convened for the sixth consecutive year an award to promote research and the dissemination of any aspect related to osteoporosis. This award, endowed with 3,000 euros, aims to recognise the best original work published or accepted for publication from 1 January until 31 December 2011, in a scientific journal in the medical field.

The jury will be formed by a minimum of 3 rheumatologists – associate partners from the be – and will be responsible for evaluating the quality of the works presented and choose a winner. The members of the Evaluation Committee not eligible for the prize, nor may belong to the same Rheumatology service than any of the candidates.

The award ceremony will take place at the National Congress of the Spanish society of Rheumatology (be), to be held in Zaragoza from 15 to 18 May. The deadline for submitting nominations is February 29.

In the last edition, the winning work was the article entitled Secondary Prevention Program for Osteoporotic Fractures and Long-term Adherence to Bisphosphonates ”, submitted by DRA. Soledad Ojeda (Hospital Dr. Negrin of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and published in the journal Osteoporosis International ”.

This initiative responds to the commitment of Lilly with health professionals to promote and disseminate the scientific advance.

In the musculoskeletal area, Lilly has developed various research initiatives for more than three decades, which have resulted in innovative medicines for the treatment of osteoporosis.
