Research in Spain found that intelligence could “catch” to a large extent, depending on the environment and incentives offered by the children.
Such a study, in which participated the Faculty of psychology of the University of Malaga, Spain in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, took as a basis more than 2,000 children Spanish aged between 13 and 18 years.
All them them tests were conducted for the purposes of assessing their skills verbal, numerical and intelligence reasoning.
Also investigated the educational and professional level of the parents, which the researchers included three categories: management, worker qualified or not, unemployment or housewife who is rated as high, medium and low.
In addition it was taken into account, if the formation of the students was carried out in public schools or private.
As it relieves the work released by the world of Spain, “cognitive skills or intelligence in the teens predict an important physical and health psychological of a child in the future”
And continues: “in addition, academic accomplishments relate to positive variables from the psychological point of view, as having a better self-esteem.” “Enjoy a lesser intellect in childhood, however, is associated with problems of anxiety in adulthood”.
The results
According to conclude the researchers, “the likelihood that adolescents should have a high cognitive performance and his parents had a high educational level was between 1.6 to 1.7 times higher than those with parents with low-level training.”
“Just – add – the possibilities were of 1.8 to 2.4 times higher for teens with parents of high professional level”.
In the educational field, the work determines that “the likelihood of greater intellectual capacity was 1.5 times higher in those who attended private schools as compared with those who instruct in public”.
These findings confirm that parents have a key role in their children’s intellectual development. Experts point out that “a higher educational level of parents is related to greater attention from the child and with a better acquisition of language and memory”.
Likewise, socio-economic factors include another aspect which most influence on language and memory.
