Professor of the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB) Dr. Ignasi Roig, participated with a group of researchers in the discovery of the physiological role protein p53, which could protect our body from cancer.
Protein, works by avoiding the outbreak of mutations, characteristic of tumors and deactivating this function, eliminate the tumor extension process. In short, it is able to slow down the normal process of cancer. the protein p53 is known as the guardian of the genome because it is essential to maintain its integrity by preventing the accumulation of mutations, originating either by own machinery to the cell, by the action of agents external to it. The protein is activated in response to certain signals, such as breaks in the DNA.
The results are very relevant, because they help to better understand the function of this protein essential for stopping tumor progression and therefore they could open the door to new approaches in the study of cancer.
