USP San Jaime welcomes in alicante the fourth Conference on modelling and simulation in biomedicine
las Jornadas meet nearly a hundred or so experts working in quantitative Pharmacology applied to the development of new drugs, the optimization of the design of clinical trials, as well as in the customization of the treatments available.
Alicante, 2011-November The Hospital USP San Jaime (Torrevieja-Alicante) together with the Tedeca Foundation and other organizations, organizes this year the fourth Conference on modelling and simulation in biomedicine, which will be held on 23, 24 and 25 November 2011 in the Chamber of Commerce and industry of Alicante, and will bring together nearly 100 experts working in quantitative Pharmacology applied to the development of new drugs, the optimization of the design of clinical trials, as well as the customization of the treatments available. These conferences are the annual meeting of the health professionals of the Pharmacometrics, a science until a few years ago considered emerging, but which today we can say already consolidated and which according to the FDA, relates in a quantitative manner information about drugs and the disease, and that enables the efficient development of drugs and/or drug regulatory decision-making.
The Pharmacometrics uses statistical models based on Pharmacology, Physiology, and pathology for quantitative analysis of interactions between drugs and patients. In these days, health care professionals of the environment hospital, University and pharmaceutical industry will discuss advances in quantitative Pharmacology and its application to speed up the development of medicines that improve the quality of life of patients and/or increase the efficiency of currently available drug treatments.
For this reason, the Scientific Committee has striven to include in the agenda aspects of scientific interest at present, such as modelling and design studies in populations of patients such as Pediatrics or insufficient kidney or liver, the incorporation of pharmacogenetics in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic models, or the modelling of biological agents and new therapeutic targets detailed in the programme.
The USP San Jaime Hospital Oncology platform firmly opted for the medical application of quantitative Pharmacology in the personalization of cancer treatments. It thus has a unit of Pharmacotherapy only custom characteristics in our country, whose medical practice has shown that it is possible to optimize the treatment of cancer by 50 per cent of patients served.
